The Law and Regulations regarding number portability allow for the porting of non-geographic numbers as of the 7th of March 2022.

How long does Porting take?

Porting can take up to three working days for one or more individual numbers, depending on the donor operator.

Porting can take up to ten working days for blocks of 100, 1,000 or 10,000 consecutive numbers, where a business or wholesale customer is concerned.

How do I order a number to be Ported?

If you are an existing client get in touch with us and we’ll send you a Porting Mandate. You’ll need to submit that together with a recent and complete phone account (all pages, not just the cover page).

How do I know if the number I’m phoning is Ported?

When you call a ported number, your network operator will play three short beeps before connecting the call.  Furthermore, the network operator might charge a cross-network rate to call a ported number.  If the number has been ported to the same network you are calling from then you might not hear the beeps and an on-network charge may apply.

Can I port my 086/087/080 number?

Yes, you can.  In a General Notice issued by ICASA on the 15th of December 2021, the Chairperson, Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng, announced that the Number Portability Regulations in Government Gazette No. 41949 dated 01 October 2018 will come into effect on 07 March 2022.

Plus the cost of the VoIP SIP Trunk

Maybe you’ve heard of a VoIP SIP Trunk or VoIP SIP Trunking. Maybe an acquaintance of yours saves money by using a XLence Telecoms VoIP SIP Trunk in his or her business. As a result, you’d like to know more. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, or in more common terms telephone service over the Internet.

Because your business is already paying for the internet, you can now use our VoIP solution to make calls at a reduced cost.

A SIP Trunk is the VoIP equivalent of the traditional analogue, basic or primary rate telephony service. It’s a multi-line service that you would use together with a Switch Telecom Hosted Switchboard or a VoIP PBX. You can also connect it to a traditional switchboard with a gateway device.

With an Unlimited VoIP SIP Trunk, you can choose between 4, 8 and 16 outbound channels (8, 16 and 32 inbound calls respectively) and get unlimited calling to South African local, national, and mobile numbers, plus a selection of popular international destinations.

If you select a usage-based option you can choose from a minimum of 4 up to 1000 channels.

A channel is the number of concurrent lines you can have linked to a number or numbers to allow for concurrent calls both incoming and outgoing. This means that the trunk is ideal for both small and large companies, even call centres.

Direct Dial Numbers and a SIP Trunk

You can choose between a SIP Trunk with just one number or one with multiple numbers. Multiple numbers linked to a trunk are called direct dial numbers.

Some of our clients give each employee a phone number that rings directly to their desktop or mobile phone. This allows callers to bypass the main business number. Some of our clients have more than one business number linked to their SIP trunk. We can provision 1 number up to a maximum of 10000 numbers on the trunk.

Moreover, you can upgrade the number of channels or add additional numbers to your SIP trunk, at any time, without interruption to your business.

  • Select an Unlimited VoIP Package and make unlimited calls to South African local, national and mobile numbers, plus a selection of popular international destinations.
  • Save up to 50% on your business call charges with a usage-based package.
  • Port your business number to XLence Telecoms or choose a XLence Telecoms geographic or non-geographic telephone number.

No, but we would recommend contacting us to discuss which equipment works best.

What payment method can I use to pay for my XLence Telecoms services?

XLence Telecoms offer both Pre-Paid (Advance) and Post-Paid (Arrears) payment options.

On Post-Paid billing the invoice is automatically generated and emailed on the 1st of each month in respect of that month’s service fee and the previous month’s calls.
Payment is collected strictly via debit order three working days later.

Subscribers who have elected to pay in advance will need to pay via EFT or by Credit Card on a strictly pre-paid basis. Airtime top-ups purchased using a Credit Card on the Switch Telecom Client Zone are immediate whereas EFT payments are subject to bank clearance delays.

What do others pay to phone my XLence Telecoms number?

These call charges are largely controlled by the service provider that people who phone you are using. Under normal circumstances they should be similair to standard calling rates.

How many direct dial numbers can I have with my trunk solution?

You can take as many direct dial numbers as you require.  We do however work on a 10 number to 1 channel ratio. For example, if you have a 4 channel trunk, you can have a maximum of 40 direct dial numbers.  If you require more than 40 numbers the channels on your trunk will have to increase accordingly.

XLence Telecoms uses VoIP technology to provide an IP Faxing solution over your wired or wireless broadband Internet connection (FoIP).

Government departments, professional firms and financial institutions still rely on faxing to send and receive documents. Moreover, legal documents that require signatures are also still sent by fax.

For the purpose of real-time faxing, XLence Telecoms has enabled the T.38 fax protocol throughout its network. The T.38 protocol ensures that there is no longer a need to store and send faxes at a later stage. In some professions, such as the legal profession, it’s essential to send and receive faxes in real-time in order to abide by certain rules of evidence.

Notably, the traditional fax machine can now transmit across an invisible IP network which circumvents the expensive landline networks.

All you’ll need to start sending and receiving faxes over your internet connect is an adapter, plugged into your fax machine, and a VoIP line.

  • Real-time faxing is achieved due to the T.38 fax protocol which is enabled throughout XLence Telecom’s network.
  • Save between 30% and 50% on your monthly fax transmissions because of XLence Telecom’s local, national and international rates.
  • Choose between a geographic or non-geographic fax number or keep your main fax numbers when you port to Switch Telecom.

Teleconferencing is an essential business tool. Traditional teleconferencing systems can, however, be extremely costly. They are often difficult to use and can lack productive features. Some companies are mandated by law to use call recording.

Perhaps you operate in an industry where this isn’t a legal requirement and as a result, you might not have considered the many other reasons why recording your business calls could benefit your organisation.  You can quickly and easily improve the way your business operates by simply recording your calls.

Consider the competitive world we work in.  Excellent client service is extremely important.  It’s often the only aspect that can set one business apart from another. We know from experience that clients want to be heard and understood. It’s often difficult to actively listen to clients when you need to take notes and keep track of all the details.  Call recording allows you the opportunity to really listen to your clients.  It’s simple to refer to a call at a later stage if you need to capture missed or forgotten information.

Call recording can also be used as an effective learning tool.

Therefore by recording calls, you can hear how your team members speak to clients. Additionally, managers can also use recordings to monitor how their teams communicate with existing and potential clients.

Furthermore, call recording will ensure that your business complies with legal and industry-specific legislation.  Recorded calls can help you resolve disputes.  And you might even consider using call recordings as verbal contracts thus reducing your sales cycle.

All things considered, call recording is a small and inexpensive way to monitor your business and make improvements. Moreover, call recordings can provide a lot of information and there are many ways to apply the information you have gathered to set your business apart from the rest.

  • Record your calls for 6 months, 1 year, 2 year or 5 years.

Toll free numbers or a Toll free telephone number is a telephone number with an 0800 prefix that is billed for all incoming calls, instead of incurring charges to the originating telephone subscriber.  The charge for using a toll free phone number is paid for by the called party instead of the calling party.  Thus for the calling party, a call to an 0800 number from a landline or mobile is free of charge.

Your customers might not be enjoying the benefits of XLence Telecom’s local, national and mobile rates. And they might still be paying high rates to their mobile or fixed-line provider. As a result, a XLence Telecoms 0800 number could be an indispensable asset to your business.  Furthermore, customers recognize “0800” numbers as being free of charge, which no doubt has a positive impact on whether or not they’re going to call your business.  Consequently, toll-free numbers can help you to brand your business.

All you need is a reliable internet connection and a XLence Telecoms Hosted Switchboard or a XLence Telecoms VoIP Trunk connected to your existing VoIP PBX.

  • Add credibility to your brand, services and products.
  • Increase customer service perception.

XLence Telecoms is able to provide its clients with international phone numbers reflecting the area codes of hundreds of cities in over 60 countries worldwide.

One of the main benefits of having an international number is that it gives callers the impression that your business has a local presence in foreign cities.  In addition, international callers will pay their local call rate when calling your international number, which will consequently make it easier for them to do business with your company.  Moreover, you can use your international number for family and friends, who live and work abroad, in the event that they need to call you cheaply.

The cost is typically around R200 per month per telephone number, this is, however, depending on the cities required.

All you need is a reliable broadband connection together with one of XLence Telecom’s cost-effective VoIP solutions such as a SIP Trunk or Hosted Switchboard.

  • You can give callers the impression of a local presence in foreign cities in order to grow your business globally.
  • Friends and family can call you cheaply if they live or work abroad which will encourage them to call you more frequently.
  • International callers pay their local call rate, which will keep their costs down and subsequently encourage them to contact you on a regular basis.
  • Most notably, there are no per-minute charges to route the calls to South Africa.
  • Not to mention, you can get up to two simultaneous calls per international number.
  • The cost of an international number is also surprisingly inexpensive when you consider all the benefits.
  • Above all, you can choose numbers from hundreds of cities in over 60 countries worldwide.

A Cloud SBC or Session Border Controller is often described as a “firewall for VoIP”. These are used at the “borders” between different networks to make sure data is transferred correctly between them, as well as providing a layer of security and protection from attacks and breaches. SBCs were traditionally located on-premise, but increasingly are cloud-hosted, allowing a much higher level of flexibility and reliability together with lower up-front costs.

XLence Telecoms Cloud SBC

If your business is using Microsoft Teams as an internal communication tool and you already have Microsoft 365 E5 enterprise licenses you can connect to the XLence Telecoms network with the XLence Cloud SBC.

Direct routing on the Teams platform will allow you to connect to a XLence Telecoms VoIP SIP Trunk. This means being able to take advantage of lower call rates, more flexibility, and better support.

Direct Routing is seen as extremely attractive by a variety of businesses as it gives them the true flexibility of choosing their own telephony provider, all the while retaining a verified integration with the Teams platform.

Direct Routing works by combining the Teams system to the XLence Telecoms network using two key elements: a XLence Telecoms Cloud SBC or Session Border Controller and a XLence Telecoms SIP Trunk.

Please note that Microsoft treats the “Teams Phone System” functionality as an optional extra to Teams. Even if your license includes Teams, you will not be able to use the “Teams Phone System” unless you have contracted for either (a) E5 enterprise licenses; or (b) a license that includes Teams functionality as well as the additional-cost “Microsoft Teams Phone Standard” upgrade license. These licenses are required for every user that will use the functionality.

  • In the first place, you can have Teams completely integrated with XLence Telecom.
  • No need to spend a fortune on physical hardware.
  • No difficult hardware set up and on going maintenance.
  • You can retain your business number/s by porting to XLence Telecom.
  • Month to month contract.
  • Notably, a flat monthly fee that remains the same regardless of the number of users you have registered to Teams

Monthly Service Fee: R1,000 (including VAT) per month

VoIP Call rates that make sense…

Most of our clients choose XLence Telecom for the advanced solutions we provide.  Some, however, choose us for our really affordable VoIP call rates.

We don’t confuse our clients with “in and out of bundle” pricing or different VoIP call rates for “peak and off-peak” periods. We offer two basic and easy-to-understand usage-based call rate packages.

Package 1 is ideal for companies whose users make long calls.  Companies that sell solutions or services would benefit from the lower VoIP call rates charged.  The calls are charged in 30-second increments with a minimum of 60 seconds.

Conversely, Package 2 would suit the needs of companies whose agents make shorter calls, such as Security companies or Call Centres.  The rates are slightly higher than those of Package 1. The per second billing will, however, bring down your overall call costs.

Clients can also select Unlimited VoIP Calling.
