Number porting is the transfer of your existing telephone number, or numbers, from your current service provider to the XLence Telecoms network.

When you port your number to XLence Telecoms, the ported number or numbers will be linked to a cost-effective XLence Telecoms solution or multiple solutions depending on your requirements. You can choose from a wide range of solutions which will see a reduction in your existing monthly service fees together with your call charges.

Solutions range from a VoIP Line to the Hosted Switchboard Solution. A VoIP line is predominantly used in homes and for one to two people in small offices. The Hosted Switchboard solution has been designed for small to large enterprises as well as call centres. Corporate clients can also choose a VoIP SIP Trunk if they already have their own VoIP PBX and would like to take advantage of XLence Telecom’s great service and low call rates.

Which numbers can I port?
XLence Telecoms is able to port geographic and non-geographic numbers from all major networks registered with The Number Portability Company.

A geographic telephone number is a number that starts with 01, 02, 03, 04 or 05 and a non-geographic number begins with 080, 086 or 087.

The Law and Regulations regarding number portability allow for the porting of non-geographic numbers as of the 7th of March 2022.

How long does Porting take?
Porting can take up to three working days for one or more individual numbers, depending on the donor operator.

Porting can take up to ten working days for blocks of 100, 1,000 or 10,000 consecutive numbers, where a business or wholesale customer is concerned.

What does Porting cost?
A once-off fee of R150.00 (including VAT) will be levied per individual phone number ported.

How do I order a number to be Ported?
If you are an existing client get in touch with us and we’ll send you a Porting Mandate. You’ll need to submit that together with a recent and complete phone account (all pages, not just the cover page).

How do I know if the number I’m phoning is Ported?
When you call a ported number, your network operator will play three short beeps before connecting the call. Furthermore, the network operator might charge a cross-network rate to call a ported number. If the number has been ported to the same network you are calling from then you might not hear the beeps and an on-network charge may apply.

Can I port my 086/087/080 number?
Yes, you can. In a General Notice issued by ICASA on the 15th of December 2021, the Chairperson, Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng, announced that the Number Portability Regulations in Government Gazette No. 41949 dated 01 October 2018 will come into effect on 07 March 2022.

A VoIP Line is a direct line service used together with a VoIP telephone (desktop/cordless) or Mobile Softphone. XLence Telecoms uses VoIP technology to provide telephone service over your wired or wireless broadband internet connection.

VoIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol, or in more common terms a phone service over the Internet.

If you have a reliable internet connection such as DSL, 5G/4G/3G/HSDPA, WiMAX, or Fibre, you can get a phone service delivered through your internet connection.

Furthermore, the service, unlike outdated fixed lines, can be moved without requiring a change of telephone number. In addition, XLence Telecoms can supply either geographic or non-geographic numbers. Alternatively, you can keep your existing telephone number and port it onto the XLence Telecoms Network.

The service is ideally suited for home and small business use. Conversely, a VoIP Trunk or Hosted Switchboard solution is better suited for larger business clients.

What is the difference between a Usage Based package and an Unlimited VoIP package?

If you select a usage-based package you pay a low monthly fee plus you’ll pay for all the calls you make. If you select an Unlimited package, you will pay a fixed monthly fee based on the number of concurrent calls you require and you will be able to make unlimited calls to South African local, national and mobile destinations, plus a number of popular international destinations.

Can I keep my existing number?
Mobile Number Portability has been available between the mobile networks for many years already and Geographic Number Portability is also available between selected Fixed Line networks. Switch Telecom prides itself in being a market leader and has been one of the first operators to offer porting of landline numbers.

Does XLence Telecoms provide Internet connectivity?
We do not offer internet connectivity but can advise you on a solution that best suits your needs. We also have a large reseller network that we can put you in touch with and who should be able to assist with your connectivity requirements. Contact us if you want to find out more.

Do I have to use XLence Telecoms supplied equipment?
No, but we would recommend contacting us to discuss which equipment works best.

How do I setup this service?
If you have purchased a XLence Telecoms then the VoIP phones are automatically configured. As a result, you will be ready to make and receive calls as soon as the device is connected to a broadband connection.

If you have your own device we will assist in configuring it using our secure auto-provisioning system. We do not guarantee that we will be able to auto-provision every device. However, we have standard setup procedures that are easily followed and which apply to the majority of technology.

What payment method can I use to pay for my XLence Telecoms services?
XLence Telecoms offer both Prepaid (Advance) and Postpaid (Arrears) payment options.

On Postpaid billing the invoice is automatically generated and emailed on the 1st of each month in respect of that month’s service fee and the previous month’s calls.
Payment is collected strictly via debit order three working days later.

Subscribers who have elected to pay in advance will need to pay via EFT or by Credit Card on a strictly prepaid basis. Airtime top-ups purchased using a Credit Card on the XLence Telecoms Client Zone are immediate whereas EFT payments are subject to bank clearance delays.

What do others pay to phone my XLence Telecoms number?
These call charges are largely controlled by the service provider that people who phone you are using. Under normal circumstances they should be similair to standard calling rates.

Buying and maintaining a traditional switchboard or PBX service is an expensive exercise. Furthermore, costs can increase significantly when you include the wiring, equipment, proprietary phones and installation fees. Signing a lengthy maintenance agreement might reduce some of the large up-front costs, but, you are consequently left with a technically inferior switchboard when the contract eventually comes to an end.

XLence Telecoms uses VoIP technology to provide a fully managed and customisable Hosted Switchboard (PBX) solution. There are no up-front costs or installation fees because there is no need to purchase a physical device. The only cost involved for the Hosted Switchboard service is a low monthly service fee.

As a result, you’d like to know more. VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, or in more common terms telephone service over the Internet.

Because your business is already paying for the internet, you can now use our VoIP solution to make calls at a reduced cost.

A SIP Trunk is the VoIP equivalent of the traditional analogue, basic or primary rate telephony service. It’s a multi-line service that you would use together with a XLence Telecoms Hosted Switchboard or a VoIP PBX. You can also connect it to a traditional switchboard with a gateway device.

With an Unlimited VoIP SIP Trunk, you can choose between 4, 8 and 16 outbound channels (8, 16 and 32 inbound calls respectively) and get unlimited calling to South African local, national, and mobile numbers, plus a selection of popular international destinations.

If you select a usage-based option you can choose from a minimum of 4 up to 1000 channels.

A channel is the number of concurrent lines you can have linked to a number or numbers to allow for concurrent calls both incoming and outgoing. This means that the trunk is ideal for both small and large companies, even call centres.

Direct Dial Numbers and a SIP Trunk

You can choose between a SIP Trunk with just one number or one with multiple numbers. Multiple numbers linked to a trunk are called direct dial numbers.

Some of our clients give each employee a phone number that rings directly to their desktop or mobile phone. This allows callers to bypass the main business number. How many direct dial numbers can I have with my trunk solution?

You can take as many direct dial numbers as you require.  We do however work on a 10 number to 1 channel ratio. For example, if you have a 4 channel trunk, you can have a maximum of 40 direct dial numbers.  If you require more than 40 numbers the channels on your trunk will have to increase accordingly.

Teleconferencing is an essential business tool. Traditional teleconferencing systems can, however, be extremely costly. They are often difficult to use and can lack productive features. Similarly, video conferencing requires expensive equipment. It also requires a large amount of bandwidth. Special rooms are also required at each end to facilitate the video call.

XLence Telecoms uses VoIP technology to provide an IP Faxing solution over your wired or wireless broadband Internet connection (FoIP).

Government departments, professional firms and financial institutions still rely on faxing to send and receive documents. Moreover, legal documents that require signatures are also still sent by fax.

For the purpose of real-time faxing, XLence Telecoms has enabled the T.38 fax protocol throughout its network. The T.38 protocol ensures that there is no longer a need to store and send faxes at a later stage. In some professions, such as the legal profession, it’s essential to send and receive faxes in real-time in order to abide by certain rules of evidence.

VoIP Call rates that make sense

Most of our clients choose Xlence Telecom for the advanced solutions we provide.  Some, however, choose us for our really affordable VoIP call rates.

We don’t confuse our clients with “in and out of bundle” pricing or different VoIP call rates for “peak and off-peak” periods. We offer two basic and easy-to-understand usage-based call rate packages.

Package 1 is ideal for companies whose users make long calls.  Companies that sell solutions or services would benefit from the lower VoIP call rates charged.  The calls are charged in 30-second increments with a minimum of 60 seconds.

Conversely, Package 2 would suit the needs of companies whose agents make shorter calls, such as Security companies or Call Centres.  The rates are slightly higher than those of Package 1. The per second billing will, however, bring down your overall call costs.
